1. What is Video Driver Classic?

Video Driver Classic is a video multistreaming software. It can send live video images simultaneous to multiple applications. Using only one video source, which can be any MS Windows video source (webcam, TV Tuner, etc), it can send its images to any number of running software that needs that video.

Such software that needs a video source can be: messengers or video chat software (Yahoo, MSN, AOL, ICQ, etc), Skype, videoconference software, video clips recording software, surveillance systems, etc.

Without Video Driver Classic, the user can only use his video source (the webcam, TV Tuner, etc) in only one of the above applications. Using Video Driver Classic, the user can use his video source simultaneously in any number of these software so it acts like a virtual video splitter for the existing video sources.

2. Prerequisites

Even Video Driver Classic is an advanced software, it runs well on most of the systems. The minimum requirements to  use Video Driver Classic are:

- The computers can be any MS Windows box, using MS Windows 2000 (all versions) with at least Service Pack 4, MS Windows XP (all versions), or MS Windows Vista

- Processor: minimum 850 MHz

- Memory: minimum 128 MB RAM

- DirectX 9 or later

- For saving video clips, a suitable codec pack (see below for details)

Video Driver Classic is optimized to use as low as possible from the computer resources. Comparing with other software it uses less from the microprocessor power and from the memory capacity. This thing is very necessary because Video Driver Classic does not impedes the use of other software, especially on usual systems.

3.Installation

Please download the Video Driver Classic installation kit named VideoDriverClassicSetup.exe (or the archived version named VideoDriverClassicSetup.zip) to your computer from the  Downloads page. When you will open it, Video Driver Classic will be automatically installed on your computer. It is possible during the installation steps to be prompted by your MS Windows to accept to install the driver component of the Video Driver Classic, stating that this one was not certified by Microsoft Labs. You can install it because this component was thoroughly tested by us and it corresponds to its specifications both for performance and stability. Anyway, if you have troubles after installing Video Driver Classic, you can completely uninstall it anytime. It may be possible to be asked to restart your MS Windows again after installation.

If you want to uninstall Video Driver Classic please go to Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs and uninstall it.

5. Usage

Video Driver Classic is very easy to use. If you have one video source (webcam, TV Tuner, etc) on your system, it will be automatically chosen. Else, you can select the video source from Advanced / Video Source. The selected video source will be displayed on Video Driver Classic. If you want to adjust the image settings, it can be done using the Settings button. Here can be adjusted parameters like Brightness, Contrast, etc.

When Video Driver Classic is running, it creates a virtual video source with the same characteristics as the video source selected for it. The name of this video source is Video Driver Classic and it can be simultaneously used by any number of  other software who need a video source. To use it in your software, simply select it from that software settings.

Video Driver Classic can be moved to a desired location on screen by pressing the left mouse button over it and dragging it where needed. It can also be minimized on running and in that case it will set itself in the Windows Systray (usually on the right down side of the screen, where some icons like the Volume control resides) in order not to use space between the user software. By double-clicking on its icon from Systray, Video Driver Classic  can be brought again on screen.

      Video Driver Classic Commands

  • Play - starts the video transmission when it was interrupted in modes Pause, Stop and Record.
  • Pause - freezes the last image from the screen. This image will be sent continuously with an optional text (default Paused) which can be set from Advanced / Pause Text.
  • Stop - fully stops the video transmission and display a blue screen which is sent the the video clients. It has the message Stopped on its upper center. This message can be changed from Advanced / Stop Text.
  • Snapshot - makes an image of the current video frame and saves it on Desktop. The destination for saving can be choosen using Advanced / Save Folder. If it is empty, the Desktop is assumed. The image will be named VDC 001. If other images are taken, these will be named VDC 002, VDC 003, etc. When the image is taken, a beep can be heard.
  • Record - records a video clip. This will be saved, in the same way as for images, on Desktop. The destination for saving can be choosen using Advanced / Save Folder. If it is empty, the Desktop is assumed. The video will be named VDC 001. If other videos are taken, these will be named VDC 002, VDC 003, etc. During the recording, the word Recording appears on screen. When we want to end the recording, we can press the Play or Stop buttons. The recording also have an audio stream from your audio source (Microphone, Line in, etc). The audio source can be selected from Advanced / Audio Source.
The recordings can be made in several formats, depending on what video and audio codecs  do you have installed on your system. These are special software capable to read or write different video and audio files like AVI, DIVX, MP3, MPEG, OGG, etc. If you do not have codecs installed on your system, you can use a prepackaged pack of the most commonly used codecs, like K-Lite Codec Pack ( http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm ), installed in Full Version, to have all the required components. You can select the desired video and audio codec for recording from Advanced / Video Encoder and Advanced / Audio Encoder. If the selected video or audio codec does not work on your system, you will be notified and you need to choose another one.
Depending on the chosen codec, the resulted recorded file will be bigger but with a greater quality, or smaller but with a lesser quality. In that way you can choose the right codec for your needs: if you want a small file to send by mail or by instant messaging to your friends, you will use a codec which compress more the video and audio source, even if the image is smaller or the quality is not so good. If you want to keep the recording for yourself on a CD or use it for further video processing, you will choose a codec which produces bigger files, but with a better quality. After you experiment with some codecs and make recordings with them, you will be able to easily choose the right one.
More information about codecs packs and a compatibility list for Video Driver Classic can be found on its site.
